The new 8.5-inch OLED display delivers deeper contrast and more than twice the peak brightness of the previous generation, while A20 Pro brings a major leap in performance and AI capabilities. There’s also a new 12MP Center Stage front camera, improved audio, faster connectivity and fast-charge support.
Running iPadOS 27 with the next generation of Apple Intelligence, the new iPad mini packs more power and versatility into an even more portable design, making it the most capable iPad mini yet.
Pre-orders begin Wednesday, 28 October, with availability from Friday, 6 November.
“iPad mini is beloved for its fantastic portability, performance, and display by a wide range of users, from creators and small business owners to doctors, field service workers, and gamers. Made to Go Anywhere
The iPad mini has always been about taking a big-screen experience with you, and the new model makes that even easier. At just 5.4 mm thin and lighter than before, it slips easily into a bag and feels comfortable to hold for longer periods.
Choose between the new midnight finish or starlight, then take iPad mini wherever the day takes you. With an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, it’s built to handle a little more of everyday life too, whether that means working outdoors, travelling or enjoying some downtime away from home.
iPad mini now has an IP67 rating to protect against water and dust.
A Bigger, Brighter View
The biggest change you’ll notice on the new iPad mini is the screen. Apple has made the display larger, moving from 8.3 to 8.5 inches, while keeping the overall footprint almost identical by making the bezels 24% thinner.
The move to OLED brings a noticeable upgrade to the viewing experience, with much deeper blacks, richer colours and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Support for the P3 wide colour gamut also means photos, videos and creative work can look more vibrant and true to life.
The Super Retina XDR display features OLED technology that delivers amazing front-of-screen performance.
Brightness gets a significant boost too. iPad mini can reach up to 1200 nits at peak brightness (more than twice that of the previous generation) while 600 nits of full-screen brightness makes it easier to see what you’re doing in brighter surroundings. At the other end of the scale, the display can drop to just 1 nit, making late-night reading much more comfortable.
There’s also a new nano-texture display option, designed to reduce reflections in brighter environments. It’s a useful addition for anyone who regularly uses their iPad mini outdoors or in places where controlling glare can be tricky.
Put it all together and the new iPad mini’s display is not just bigger, it’s brighter, more immersive and more versatile than before.
iPad mini offers a new nano-texture display option that reduces glare in bright environments.
More Power in Every Tap
The new iPad mini gets a serious performance boost thanks to A20 Pro. Built on Apple’s latest 2-nanometre technology, it brings faster CPU, graphics and AI performance to a device that still fits comfortably in your hand.
For everyday use, the difference is clear. A20 Pro delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance, making everything from editing photos to switching between apps feel more responsive. The new 7-core GPU also delivers up to 2.7x faster graphics performance, opening the door to smoother gaming and more capable 3D experiences.
A20 Pro delivers a huge leap in performance for iPad mini, significantly boosting graphics and AI-intensive tasks.
AI gets an even bigger boost, with Neural Accelerators built into every GPU core delivering up to 4.5x faster AI performance than the previous generation. That means more demanding AI tasks can run directly on iPad mini, from creative apps to local AI models.
The 512GB model takes things even further with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, doubling the processing power available for advanced on-device AI. Combined with more than twice the unified memory bandwidth, A20 Pro gives the new iPad mini plenty of headroom for whatever you want to throw at it.
With a faster CPU and GPU, as well as an increase in unified memory, working in apps like Procreate Dreams is faster than ever.
Better Sound. Smarter Cameras.
The new iPad mini isn’t just about what you see. Apple has redesigned the audio experience too, with an Acoustic Display that pairs specially designed speakers with the display for richer bass, clearer highs and more volume. Whether you’re watching a film, playing a game or editing content, it makes the compact iPad mini feel more immersive.
The cameras have had a thoughtful upgrade too. The new 12MP Center Stage front camera sits along the landscape edge, keeping you naturally in frame during FaceTime calls and video meetings. Around the back, the 12MP Wide camera captures detailed photos and 4K video, while Adaptive True Tone flash helps with everything from low-light photography to scanning documents.
FaceTime calls, video conferencing, and collaboration feel more natural than ever with the 12MP Center Stage front camera on the landscape edge.
Stay Connected, Wherever You Are
The new iPad mini gets a connectivity boost too, thanks to Apple-designed N1. It brings support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, while improving performance and reliability for everyday features like AirDrop and AirPlay.
Choose a cellular model and you’ll also get Apple’s latest C2 modem, delivering up to 50% faster cellular data speeds than the previous generation while using power more efficiently. With iPadOS 27, switching between Wi-Fi and cellular is smoother too, helping you stay connected when you’re on the move.
eSIM makes getting connected simple, allowing you to add or transfer a mobile plan digitally without needing a physical SIM. So whether you’re at home, heading to work or travelling further afield, iPad mini is ready to keep you connected.
The N1 wireless networking chip and C2 modem come to iPad mini for the first time, enabling faster connectivity.
Designed with the environment in mind
The new iPad mini has been designed with a focus on reducing its environmental impact, using 35% recycled content overall. That includes 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery.
Across the supply chain, 40% of the energy used to manufacture iPad mini comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar. It’s also designed to be durable and repairable, while meeting Apple’s standards for energy efficiency and safe chemistry.
Even the packaging has been considered, with 100% fibre-based paper packaging designed to be recycled. These choices form part of Apple’s wider goal to become carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030.
